Posted by Mackenzie Pethard | No Comments »

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Delta Air Lines may have charged some frequent fliers higher fares than other customers for almost three weeks because of a computer glitch.

The airline said Wednesday that it fixed the problem where different prices were offered to passengers logged into their frequent flier accounts. Delta spokesman Paul Skrbec said fares were higher for some passengers, but lower for others.

Delta is unsure how many people were affected, but Skrbec offered an apology to any passengers who may have been inconvenienced.

Posted by Mackenzie Pethard | No Comments »

If you’re single, looking to mingle and an iPhone or Android owner, there’s a hip new way to meet people. It’s called geo-dating; it uses your smartphone’s location to identify potential mates nearby. Skout, the most popular of these apps, will tell you just how far away JaneDoe XO is. You can also check out her pictures and profile. If she’s interested, you can chat and arrange an impromptu date at a café a few blocks away.

Around for about three years, geo-dating is only now starting to take off. In addition to selling apps and added features, developers are positioned to profit from the rise of location-based advertising. At the same time, the misadventures of a few networks are heightening concerns over users’ privacy and safety.

Launched in 2009, Skout’s dating app is now adding a million new users every month. In April, the

Analysis: A Romney win would likely change little at Federal Reserve

Posted by Mackenzie Pethard | No Comments »

n”> – For all the derision Republican presidential hopefuls have heaped on the Federal Reserve, a November win by lead contender Mitt Romney would likely change little at the central bank, at least in the short term.

Texas Governor Rick Perry, who has since dropped out of the race, called Bernanke’s policies “treasonous.” Former Georgia Congressman Newt Gingrich, who is laboring on, has vowed to fire him.

Wall Street mostly slips, but tech keeps S&P near 4-year highs

Posted by Mackenzie Pethard | No Comments »

- U.S. stocks mostly fell on Wednesday, weighed by the energy services sector, but gains in technology shares buoyed the Nasdaq and helped keep the S&P 500 near four-year highs.

The benchmark S&P 500 index, up 11.6 percent so far this quarter, found buyers at the 1,400 level, which has been held for five straight days. Support at that level suggests more gains in coming weeks.

The technology sector rose again, with the Nasdaq 100 technology index .NDXT up 0.4 percent for the day and up close to 18 percent this year. It helped the broader Nasdaq Composite edge up for the day.

“What we’re seeing is a rolling correction. Different industry groups are correcting while others are showing strength,” said Paul Nolte, managing director at Dearborn Partners in Chicago. “Equity markets are being held up in general by the technology group.”

A string of upbeat U.S.
