Don Ho’s Island Grill has closed restaurant operations through August, but will remain open for pre-scheduled special events.

Owner Phillip Johnson said in a statement that he will continue to honor his commitments to provide services for its scheduled special events, parties, fund raisers and concerts during the closure. He has partnered with an unspecified catering company to provide food for the events.

He plans to reopen in late August after “restructuring” the business by partnering with other companies for kitchen and bar services.

The state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations Wage Standards Division confirmed on Thursday that it is investigating complaints of unpaid wages against PJJ Restaurant LLC, the parent company of Don Ho’s Island Grill.

In an interview, Johnson said he is working on a solution, adding: “I am doing everything I can to come up with the $26,000 in payroll owed.”
