POTTSTOWN — Any fan of the History Channel, Discovery Channel or A&E knows that the latest craze sweeping the nation right now is buying and selling for profit. Shows like “Auction Wars,” “Storage Wars” and “American Pickers” prove just how lucrative another person’s “junk” can be.

What you may have also seen on any one of those channels is a commercial for a new auction house in Pottstown — Treasured Heirlooms. And much like it happens in the shows, you just never know what’s going to come through the doors.

Wendy Tucci and her partner, Robin Gilmore, opened Treasured Heirlooms at 114 S. Washington St. in July and say that business is picking up at every auction.

“We opened the auction house to give it a fresh, new start,” Tucci said. “We’re working to rebuild auctioning in our area and so far we’ve had a great response.”

“But,” she continued, “there’s a big difference in buying antiques and storing them in your home and buying to resell. We’re learning every day.”

Tucci and Gilmore, a self-described “strange bunch,” have been alpaca farmers for years. Their farm, Illusion Ranch, currently houses more 30 alpacas.

“We’ve been doing alpaca shows for years,” Tucci said. “We’ve been up and down the East Coast so many times that we decided to try our hand at something new.”

That something new turned out to be the old Bonnie Brae Auction.

“It was a great place in its heyday and we figured that new owners and a fresh start was what we needed to bring auctioning back to Pottstown,” said Tucci. “And since Robin and I have been going to auctions for years, it was the perfect fit.”

Along with the auction house came Bonnie Hess, whom the partners describe as their “everything” girl.
