WASHINGTON — Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner met with Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke and New York Fed President William Dudley to discuss the implications for the U.S. economy if Congress fails to act to raise the debt ceiling, a Treasury spokesman said Friday. The official said the Obama administration remains confident that Congress will raise the debt ceiling soon. Time is running short for an agreement. The Obama administration says the $14.3 trillion U.S. debt ceiling needs to be raised by Aug. 2 or the government will begin to default on its obligations.
