SYDNEY — Ahead of announcing details on a planned carbon pricing scheme, Australia’s government on Friday said it will establish a new A$3.2 billion renewable energy agency designed to bolster efforts to push the country away from its reliance on coal-fired electricity.
The Australian Renewable Energy Agency will bring under one roof an array of responsibilities previously scattered across government departments, including the Australian Centre for Renewable Energy and the Australian Solar Institute.
The government said some A$1.7 billion in funding will be available for investment in renewable energy projects up until 2020.
