HELENA, Mont. — A Montana accounting firm is facing lawsuits from six current or former farm and ranch owners who say they lost millions of dollars in real estate investments the firm advised them to make.
The Independent Record reports the lawsuits were filed between July 2009 and December and are pending in District Court in Helena.
The complaints allege Anderson ZurMuehlen along with a brokerage partnership called Acquiron it helped create with real estate broker Rick Ahmann, promised safe and secure investments in income-producing properties while helping ranchers avoid capital gains taxes on the sale of properties.
The deals went through an Idaho company called DBSI Housing Inc., which filed for bankruptcy in November 2008.
AZ attorneys say DBSI failed due to the economic downturn and investors knew the risks.
