Air Products sells home care business for $750M

ALLENTOWN — Air Products & Chemicals Inc. is selling its Continental Europe home care business to The Linde Groupe of Germany for $749.9 million, the Lehigh Valley-based company announced Monday.

The business being sold provides oxygen therapy, sleep therapy, and infusions, and it operates in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal and Belgium.

The operations have a base of about 260,000 patients and reported revenue of approximately $266.9 million in 2011, the company said. T

Don’t look now, but Anderson just might be in the process of fast-tracking the Razorbacks back to national relevance.

Arkansas (14-5, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) beat Michigan on Saturday for its second win over a ranked team, improving to 14-0 in Bud Walton Arena this season. Greece reaffirms support for ITGI project

Greek officials have reaffirmed support of the Turkey-Greece-Italy natural gas pipeline, calling it the most mature of three competing plans to cross the country.

A statement released Friday by the Greek ministries of foreign affairs and energy voiced strong support for Interconnector Turkey-Greece-Italy, which, if fully realized, would transport up to 11 billion cubic meters of mostly Azeri gas to southern Europe, the Italian news agency ANSA reported.

It is backed by Italian energy giant Edison S.p.A. and Greece’s state-owned gas utility DEPA.

“The Greek government steadily and consistently supports the plan to complete the ITGI pipeline,” the official statement said.

Westpac readies for job losses as industry cuts back

Westpac is expected to slash as many as 600 positions this year as it reduces staff levels across its operations, adding to job losses for the industry.

A Westpac spokeswoman, while not confirming the 600 job-loss figure reported in today’s Australian Financial Review, said the bank would be cutting staff levels this year to adjust to a slower growing economy.

We can expect that staff numbers will decrease as we reduce higher cost contract-based staff and reduce duplication in roles at head offices, said Westpac spokeswoman Supreet Gosal.
